GUY Mummery is emerging as another star youngster from Rookery Park's productive junior section.

Besides winning the most recent Mid-Week Stableford he is now junior champion of both Felixstowe and Thorpeness.

At Rookery he 'lipped out' for an eagle on the 15th hole and added three more birdies to finish on level par with 41 points.

Only a bogey on the last hole stopped him from going round the course in under par. He beat fellow junior, Luke Thompson, by two shots. Sean Pike finished third with 36pts.

In the Thorpeness Junior Championship, Mummery, having never seen the course before, won with a score of 71.

It was the same story at Felixstowe, where, again having previously never seen the course before, he also recorded a score of 71.

It took a birdie on the last hole for him to clinch a second successive Junior Championship victory.

He keeps in form by hitting 180 balls on the driving range every day. His aim next year is to try for places in the club's Stenson and Hambro teams and the County U18 team.

The Turkey Four saw the successful pairing of David Porter and Brian Nicholls add another victory to their long list of successes.

On the seventh hole Porter achieved an up and down from a bunker to record his second birdie. Nicholls birdied the ninth and 13th holes.

In the 'Race to Dubai' competition the pair have beaten opponents from Weston Park, Eaton and Rookery and are awaiting to know who their next round opponents are in their efforts to reach the grand final, to be held in Dubai.

So confident is Nicholls that he has left for a break in Egypt armed with an array of sand wedges to practise with and to become fully acclimatised to the heat.

Other prizes in Turkey Four went to Martin Scott with Paul Perry, Darren Gotts with Gary Flatt, 42pts Kevin Utton with Graham Robins and Chris Soanes with Graeme Brown, 41pts.

After their unexpected elevation to fame Rookery's smallest syndicate now claim to be its most practical. In their small group of golfers they have a doctor and a part-time pharmacist who is also a gravedigger.

They can provide a diagnosis, dispense the pills and provide a back-up in case the treatment fails.

The Junior Bogey Shield has been won by George Milton with a score of two-up. Ryan Turk finished level whilst Patrick Fitzgerald took third place on one down.
