During the month of October Waveney Gymnastics Club took several competitors to two events for gymnasts with a variety of disabilities.

Many participants have taken part in other events over recent years, but this year has been particularly hectic.

The club's young gymnasts enjoyed success in this discipline when they attended the Special Olympics Sports event held in Sheffield during August and they went on to attend the British Championships at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

With the support of the club's lead coach for disability, Ellen Hutchings and other coaches in this discipline Holly Durbridge, Pamela Laws, Sandra Crowe and young leaders within the club achieved excellent results at each competition, with a couple of overall victories being achieved.

In Competition B Class II (men's junior), for those with physical disability (class II and class I learning disability) Jack Jacobs scored 9.50 on vault, 6.00 on rings, 7.85 on pommel horse, 8.00 on parallel bars, 3.60 on high bar, 9.30 on floor to finish with a total of 45.20 and win the all around gold medal.

In Competition A Class II (women's junior) Millie Atkins scored 9.633 on vault, 8.95 on asymmetric bars, 7.50 on beam, 9.50 on floor to score a total of 35.633 and won the silver medal overall.

In Competition B under 12 years of age (no specific classification) Grace Beales scored 9.066 on vault, 6.85 on asymmetric bars, 6.35 on beam, 9.50 on floor, and a total of 31.766 to be placed sixth overall.

In Competition B Class I (men's junior) Benjamin O'Keefe scored 10.95 on vault, 6.60 on rings, 9.30 on pommel horse, 9.05 on parallel bars, 5.20 on high bar, 10.60 on floor and a total of 50.65 to finish second overall , winning the silver medal.

Competition B Class I (women's senior) Emily Buck scored 10.933 on vault, 9.65 on asymmetric bars, 8.45 on beam, 9.60 on floor, giving her a total of 38.633 and first place to win the gold medal.

On their return Waveney Gymnastic Club had two British champions from the event and two runners-up - this was a great achievement and credit goes to the gymnasts themselves and to all those involved with the work done with them.

The parental support is also important and the confidence it brings these young athletes cannot be under estimated.
