A chairman has retired after 31 years at the helm of a talking newspaper.

Rodney Scase, who joined Sound East Lowestoft Talking Newspaper in early 1980, has stepped down after leading the organisation through significant changes and developments.

Mr Scase first became aware of the organisation via a letter from the then chairman, Charles Cudmore, published in The Journal.

Over the years, he has navigated the company through two major relocations, and a successful application to the Big Lottery Fund, which allowed Sound East to acquire and move to its current studio on Alexandra Road.

In addition to his leadership role, Mr Scase has been the editor for the yellow team and met weekly with the treasurer.

He has also been responsible for maintaining the organisation's equipment and overall operations.
