A man has been jailed for more than two years after a child was found with bruising and a rib fracture.

Shane Tilbrook, of Hawthorn Avenue, Lowestoft, was sentenced to 26 months in jail at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday.

It follows a guilty plea at an earlier hearing for child cruelty contrary to S1(1) of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933.

The victim was taken into hospital after bruising marks appeared on their body including their legs and feet in October 2020.

They sustained a rib fracture that was noticed when they were taken to hospital for assessment of the bruising injuries.

Tilbrook was charged in December 2022 and after his guilty plea was jailed.

The 27-year-old was also handed a 10-year restraining order preventing contact with the child.

DC Lauren Patterson from the safeguarding investigation Unit said: “As with all child abuse cases, this was a highly complex and sensitive investigation.

"But through the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub which involves police, county council, education and health, among others to address issues of risk of harm, abuse and neglect we were able to secure this conviction against Tilbrook.”
