A new café looks set to open in Kessingland - despite concerns being raised about noise and its alcohol licence.

Ninedeli, which had been run in Pinkneys Lane, Southwold for the past few years, is set to move to a new location, in Kessingland near Lowestoft.

It comes after a bid for a new premises licence for Ninedeli at 202 Church Road, Kessingland was given the go-ahead following a meeting of East Suffolk Council's licensing sub-committee.

With the premises described as a café/sandwich bar with a takeaway and delivery service, applicant James Scott lodged a bid for a new premises licence to be granted.

It also sought for Mr Scott to have access to the premises at any time to facilitate the delivery service of ‘off sales’ of alcohol.

As five objections were submitted, a meeting of East Suffolk's licensing sub-committee held at Riverside, Lowestoft this week discussed the matter.

Discussing the new premises licence, sub-committee chair Sarah Plummer said the main concerns were over "the noise associated with a drinking establishment" with the premises "located in the midst of residential properties and next to a children’s play park."

The committee heard from the licensing officer, Mr Scott and the objectors, and were told Mr Scott is experienced in running licensed premises in Lowestoft and Southwold and there had never been any concerns or complaints received over his previous licensed premises.

After hearing from all parties, Cllr Plummer said: "The decision of the sub committee, having considered the application, the licensing officer's report, and the representations received from the applicant and the objectors, has decided to grant the on sale licence from Monday to Sunday 8am to 10pm, with the exception of New Year's Eve when it would be 8am through to 1am the following morning, as applied for in the application.

"Off licence sales are granted, but the hours are modified to Monday to Sunday, 7am to 11pm."
