Increased demand for a new dog park on the outskirts of Lowestoft has prompted a fresh bid for new facilities.

After a scheme to create a secure dog exercise field at Laurel Farm in Hall Lane
on the edge of Oulton village, had been given the go-ahead earlier this year, a second field could now be unveiled.

Plans for a new dog park on equestrian land were given the green light in February - and now new change of use plans have been proposed for another area at the same site.

A retrospective application submitted to East Suffolk Council could see a former horse grazing land turned into a new dog exercise field at Laurel Farm on Hall Lane.

With the initial change of use application site for an area north of Laurel Farm in Hall Lane, a "secure dog exercise field" with 6ft high fencing and a locked gate proposed.

Now, a retrospective application lodged by Jessica Hodgkin, is currently 'awaiting decision'.

A design and access statement said the latest proposals are for "the southern end of Laurel Farm" on a second field named ‘Home Meadow’.

It said: "We decided to open this dog field as a temporary measure until we had the permitted field to the north of Laurel Farm open.

"Unfortunately we’ve encountered long delays in opening for various reasons.

"Several people have contacted us being desperate for the field to open and we also wanted to 'test the market' to see if there was demand given the significant costs involved in setting up the business.

"As we now realise the permitted field will not be open until likely winter time, we are submitting this planning application for the second field named ‘Home Meadow’ to make it permanent, remaining open all year round.

"We now believe there will be demand for two secure dog fields due to being fully booked on weekends with some customers on a waiting list for cancellations."

The dog field would be available for people to hire via an online booking system offering 25 and 55-minute private slots.

East Suffolk Council are likely to make a decision in the coming weeks.
