The hard work and dedication of caring staff at one of the region's main hospitals has been recognised at a glittering awards ceremony.

The James Paget University Hospital celebrated its staff at its annual Paget’s People awards evening.

Picture: James Paget University Hospital (Image: James Paget University Hospital) More than 200 people turned out at Great Yarmouth Town Hall on Friday, October 18 as winners across 17 award categories were crowned - after they'd been selected from more than 800 nominations from patients and staff at the hospital.

The Gold Patient Choice award, sponsored by the Eastern Daily Press, was won by Luana Silva - a Registered Nurse Associate who was praised for the care they provided to a palliative care patient.

Ben Smouton, who goes above and beyond to maintain services in theatres, won the Paget’s Person of the Year in the Non-Clinical category.

The Team of the Year award in the Non-Clinical category, went to the hospital’s Catering Team, who had overcome significant challenges in providing patients and staff with nutritious food options over the last year.

In the Clinical category, the Team of the Year went to Ward 17, who were commended for providing excellent care for both haematology and oncology patients, and their enthusiastic, knowledgeable nursing team. 

Jo Segasby, chief executive of the James Paget, presented a Commendation to Laura Jones for fostering a supportive learning environment.

Mark Friend, chair of the James Paget, awarded the Nursing, Midwifery and AHP Research and Evaluation Service the Chair’s Commendation for their work in supporting over 30 projects to come to life through their scholarship programme.
