A historical newspaper is the subject of an exhibition being held in a county high street pub.

The Mayfly in Lowestoft is hosting the exhibition dedicated to the locally significant Waveney Clarion, a community newspaper published monthly in north east Suffolk during the 1970s and 80s.

The highly regarded paper was previously featured in the Sunday Times in 1980, on the BBC's Look East in the same year and in a two-page spread in the Eastern Daily Press in 2013.

The display, named Clarion Calling, presents a variety of images, predominantly front covers from its 11 years in circulation.

Visitors can view original copies from each year.

One of the Clarion's editors, John Ellerby encouraged guests to "get an excellent Mayfly coffee and lose yourself in the Clarion pages".

He believes the paper offers insight into a vibrant cultural era of the past while carrying contemporary relevance.

The exhibition can be visited every weekday from 10.30am to 2.30pm until August 29.

The Waveney Supporters Group also announced plans to compile a book titled Clarion Calling to be published by Christmas 2024.
