The Seagull Theatre in Pakefield has celebrated being a nationally recognised venue for the past year by the Arts Council.

Since April last year, the venue's inclusion in the National Portfolio has stimulated significant growth in the community's art and drama initiatives.

The Seagull's inclusion in the National Portfolio comes in light of its dedication towards fostering local talent and community engagement.

This inclusion places the venue next to elite establishments like the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company.

The National Portfolio gives yearly support to selected organisations, recognising their important role in the arts sector.

The Seagull Theatre seized this opportunity last year, resulting in the venue's success in implementing 224 cost-free events for dementia patients and their families alone.

The increased funding has seen children and youngsters benefit from more than 200 hours of subsidised theatre lessons.

To cater to all age groups, toddlers have enjoyed 24 hours of expertly-led storytelling sessions and all attendees had the opportunity to partake in 120 hours of discounted dance lessons.

Meanwhile, music enthusiasts had the chance of being part of 75 hours of complimentary choir sessions and Ukulele lessons.

More than 100 hours were devoted to free specialist support for individuals with lung conditions.

In just a year, the Seagull Theatre has hosted more than 120 low-price performances, creating job opportunities for over 50 locals and volunteering openings for an equal amount.

This landmark year for the Seagull Theatre signifies its "overarching commitment to fostering local talent and ingenuity".
