Significant progress is being made at the site of a new industrial development in a coastal town.
Demolition work started in November last year as disused industrial buildings were knocked down as part of a scheme to transform vacant land in Lowestoft.
And with construction starting on the creation of a state-of-the-art business hub - which is hoped will drive economic growth in the town - at the end of January, work is gathering pace.
Work on the vacant former industrial site on Newcombe Road to create The Nexus – a new hub for clean energy companies - is well under way.
Described as a scheme that could be a "catalyst for further regeneration" in the Lowestoft area, the development will include 16 purpose-built contemporary business units with car parking, cycle storage and infrastructure works.
With the former industrial site on land adjacent to Newcombe House on Newcombe Road having been vacant for almost three years, it is being redeveloped to include the 16 units of varying sizes - to appeal to both start-up and more established businesses.
The site will also be landscaped, with internal estate roads created.
After two years of design and planning, planning permission was granted for The Nexus in October 2023.
And with the start of construction work three months ago described by the council "as a landmark moment for Lowestoft", the development is due for completion in autumn this year.
The development has seen East Suffolk Council assisted by Allman Woodcock Ltd throughout the initial design and planning phase of the project.
The council has also worked closely with teams from SEH French and Concertus Design & Property Consultants Limited, with the vision for the site being constructed by SEH French.
The units will be marketed by Bycroft Commercial.
