A dog has been killed after a car crashed into a shop front in Lowestoft.

Police were called Westwood Avenue at around 12.40pm on Wednesday after receiving reports of a car crashing into a shop.

One pedestrian, an adult woman, was caught in the collision and was assessed by the ambulance service at the scene.

She did not require further treatment but a dog was also hit by the car and died instantly.

An eye witness, who does not want to be named, said: "I heard a loud bang and saw lots of commotion outside the One Stop as the car hit another car and then went into the side of the shops.

"A tragic accident sadly killed a loved dog instantly but it could have been even worse as a group of children were close by too.

"As a dog owner myself, the local community sends our condolences to the family of the dog.”

A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said the damage to the shop was "minor".
