A railway station is being transformed into a whistlestop wonderland for a festive market.

Lowestoft Railway Station will present its annual Wherry Lines Christmas Fayre on Saturday, December 16.

The event, presented by the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership and the Lowestoft Central Project, runs from 10am to 4pm and showcases local crafters and makers.

Stalls will be inside the station's restored parcels office exhibition space and on the main concourse.

Among the items for sale are artwork, artisan jewellery, knitted crafts, homemade beaded jewellery, dog hampers and treats, silver, linen and handsewn goods, homemade cakes and pastries, as well as knitted and crocheted toys.

Jacqui Dale from the Lowestoft Central Project said: “We are thrilled to be presenting our annual Christmas Fayre, providing a unique showcase for some of our fantastic local crafters and makers and a great opportunity to purchase some unique Christmas gifts.”

Ahead of the event, project volunteers have been busy decorating the station with more than 200 metres of festoon lighting and the Wherry Lines sponsored Christmas tree.

Admission is free with trains from both Ipswich and Norwich serving the station every hour.
