Talented local crafters and artists will descend on a popular railway station as it holds an inaugural event this weekend.
Lowestoft Railway Station is hosting its first arts and crafts weekend this Saturday and Sunday - its largest event to date offers an opportunity for crafters and artists to exhibit and sell their handiwork.
This is the latest free public event to be presented by the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership and Lowestoft Central Project at the transport hub in Lowestoft - recently voted the region’s best-loved railway station.
Indoor stalls will be located inside the station's restored Parcels Office Exhibition Space with additional pitches on the station concourse.
Running from noon to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 17-18, the arts and crafts weekend will feature an array of handmade products along with demonstrations and the opportunity to sit and enjoy refreshments.
With free admission, stalls will include handmade jewellery, clothing, resin work, needlecraft, woodwork, crochet, toys, glassware, ceramics, wax melts, gifts and artisan cakes and savouries.
The station's Community Rail Shop and Tourist Information Office will be open throughout, while community rail volunteers will also be distributing free map guides and timetables and holding a railway book sale.
Organiser Jacqui Dale, from the Lowestoft Central Project, said: "We are delighted to be hosting our first arts and crafts weekend and have an array of stalls and exhibitors with some fascinating works lined up.
"The town and station are expected to be busy this weekend with a festival in Kirkley and Pakefield and the good weather attracting people to the coast.
"With the station so well sited in the heart of the town centre and so close to the beach, the event gives an opportunity for home-grown artists and makers to showcase their superb talents to both residents and visitors."
As with all the station’s community events, local groups and charities are offered an opportunity to have a free outdoor pitch.
