An empty retail shop close to a town centre could be set for a new lease of life - provided plans get the go-ahead.
A scheme has been lodged to convert a former electrical domestic appliance repair store and bathroom supplier shop in Lowestoft into a beauty and nail salon.
The plans, which are currently "awaiting decision" with East Suffolk Council centre around "Retail shop premises to be converted to Beauty and Nail Salon trading as USA Nails Lowestoft Limited" at Bevan Street East in Lowestoft.
The retail shop - which was built in 1960 - at 125 Bevan Street East is just off the main shopping street of Lowestoft's busy town centre.
Having been empty for almost three years, plans submitted by Thomas Jones on behalf of the applicant Miss Ha Nhat Le, for USA Nails Lowestoft Limited, said that the current use of the site is a "retail shop - vacant and closed" together with a "separate first and second floor maisonette, which is also vacant".
It adds that the "proposed development" would see the "retail shop premises to be converted to Beauty and Nail Salon trading as USA Nails Lowestoft Limited".
The works would see: "Ground floor to be open plan with beauty treatment cubicles. Wall mirrors with lights.
"Frontage sign to be mounted on external wall and new modern front door."
It adds: "Existing first floor and second floor to continue for residential use as at present", with the building to undergo "modernisation and redecoration."
With a final decision to be made in the coming weeks by East Suffolk Council, Lowestoft Town Council's planning committee is due to meet next Tuesday, May 23.
Here, they will discuss the application and put forward a recommendation to East Suffolk Council which, as planning authority, will have the final say at a later date.
