Students at a coastal sixth-form college are uniting once more to bring a new production to the stage.
With staff at Lowestoft Sixth Form College expressing pride last year as students took to the stage for its first-ever full-length musical, the curtain will fall on its latest musical in less than two weeks.
After the success of last year’s student-led musical, Lowestoft Sixth Form College students have banded together to bring a second production to the stage – Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.
Ellie Lacey, Jake Snell, Lauren West, Ells Bedwell, Aimee Carter, Gigi Leadbitter and Morgan Dunn have joined forces as the Student Production Team, responsible for directing, choreographing, staging, marketing, casting, sourcing props, costumes and more.
Lauren West, Performing Arts student and dance captain, said: "My role has helped build my confidence as a choreographer and has broadened my horizons to a new job role in the performing arts industry."
Students from East Coast College have also got involved - with carpentry students helping to build the set, while Media Make-Up and Hairdressing students styled the cast to create the sinister looks needed to bring the production to life.
Aimee Carter, Performing Arts student and dance captain, said: "Being able to see everybody’s hard work and dedication come to light has been extremely rewarding.”
Performances will take place from March 20 to March 23 in front of more than 100 guests each night, with all the money raised through ticket sales and programmes to be used to fund future performances.
Katy Beales, Lowestoft Sixth Form Performing Arts teacher, said: "We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved with this production.
"This is a challenging show with a difficult score and the students have met the challenge head-on and have produced some outstanding work!"
Tickets - which are selling fast - are still available to purchase by contacting the Lowestoft Sixth Form reception on 01502 537000.
