Three new homes could be built as a housing scheme continues in a coastal town.

As work continues on two detached dwellings currently being built by Total Homes (East Anglia) Ltd on Union Lane in Oulton Broad, Lowestoft a new development could see three further homes built - provided plans get the go-ahead.

A scheme has been lodged with East Suffolk Council for the "construction of three detached two-storey dwellings, garages and associated works" on land adjacent to 23 Union Lane with the plans currently "awaiting decision."

Submitted by agents Malcolm Dixon, on behalf of Total Homes Ltd, a planning design and access statement said: "The site faces onto Union Lane to the north and the area is characterised by dwellings on both the opposite side of the lane, and to the east, including two detached dwellings presently being built by Total Homes.

"To the immediate south there is farmland and to the west scrub land/paddock, beyond which there is further contemporary residential development."

It adds: "In connection with the development presently being built, it was acknowledged that given the wider allocation in the area then a small development on the northern perimeter following the linear pattern on the south side of Union Lane would be acceptable.

"The overall site area is approximately 1000sq m and the provision of three dwellings equates to a density of 30 per hectare; and therefore making the most efficient use of the site."

With the earmarked development to "be in keeping with the approved scheme presently under construction at 21 and 23 Union Lane," it adds: "The new dwellings will front onto Union Lane, and so will preserve the established street pattern and character of the immediate area."

It concludes: "Taking into account the scheme already under construction and the wider planning context, it is considered that the stand alone proposal conforms to both national and local planning policies."
