A drive-through Starbucks coffee shop could create new jobs as it is built on part of a supermarket's car park.

Plans have been unveiled for a new Starbucks development to be located on part of the Asda car park on Belvedere Road in Lowestoft.

The plans – which have been submitted to Waveney District Council – centre around a drive-through outlet of the coffee giant, with associated car parking spaces and signage.

And if the development is given the go-ahead, it would create 15 full-time jobs and 10 part-time positions.

A design and access statement, produced by Dovetail Architects Ltd on behalf of Burney Midlands Ltd, states: 'The proposal is for a Starbucks building to be constructed in the southern section of the Asda car park.

'The proposed site is designed in such a way that it will have frontage towards Belvedere Road.'

The proposed development of the site, which measures around 1243sq m, would see a 'single-storey high, new built commercial unit' created.

The application says: 'Included within the construction of the building will be a drive-through, eight extra parking spaces, and an outdoor seating area. 'The building itself will be single storey with room inside for enough indoor seating, toilets, a kitchen area and a service counter area.'

If given the go-ahead, the new development would replace 48 existing parking spaces.

The application says: 'Asda have conducted surveys and concluded that there is an excess number of parking bays in their car parks.

'They have instead decided to use the space for a new development to complement their business.

'Access to Starbucks is directly through the main Asda car park, this drive-through is one way, to stop anyone from entering from the wrong direction.'

The proposal is currently 'awaiting decision'.
